چکیده

This paper proposes an approximate ontology translation framework for coordinating heterogeneous information services such as regional information services. To achieve semantic interoperability in heterogeneous information services, ontologies have been widely used. Translation of multiple ontologies is necessary for a domain with cross-cultural aspects, such as regional information services. Ontology translation requires approximation mechanisms since it is often the case that no exactly corresponding ontologies exist. However, most previous research efforts on ontology translation do not provide clear semantics for approximation. We therefore propose an approximate ontology translation framework which enables users to describe ontology mapping in an ontology description language. In this framework, users’ queries are reformulated based on an ontology mapping specification using approximate reformulation operators with clear semantics. This framework has been incorporated into an agent system which coordinates regional information services. The prototype achieves semantic interoperability by adopting the approximate ontology translation framework as well as a standardized agent communication language.

Approximate Ontology Translation and its Application to Regional Information Services

Coordination of multiple ontologies is one of the inherent problems for the realization of world-wide knowledge sharing. However, it is difficult to construct or standardize a single ontology for a domain that has some cross-cultural aspects. Regional information is a typical example of this because the cultural differences among multiple regions vary ontologies according to region. Cross-cultu...

Framework of semantic interoperability using geospatial ontologies

Semantics of geospatial information is necessary to ensure its interoperability and correct usage. Geospatial ontologies enable encoding such knowledge and enable reasoning mechanisms to estimate interoperability. The framework of interoperability for geospatial information using ontologies, presented in this paper, supports (i) building of ontologies, (ii) semi-automated, ontology-based mappin...

Towards Integrated Public Service Delivery Based On An Ontological Framework

Present-day governments are experiencing a shift towards supplying demand-driven and personalized electronic services. This often requires that government organizations collaborate with each other and their services and processes need to be integrated to act in a coherent manner. In this paper, we take the diversity of government agencies as a starting point and focus on the development of a sh...

Approximate Query Reformulation for Ontology Integration

This paper proposes an approximate query reformulation framework for integrating heterogeneous ontologies. In order to achieve semantic interoperability in the Semantic Web, multiple ontologies have to be integrated. Ontology integration requires approximation mechanisms, since often no perfectly corresponding ontologies exist. However, most previous research efforts on ontology integration hav...

Ontology-based Interoperability Services for Semantic Collaboration in Open Networked Systems

In this paper, we describe an ontology-based collaboration model for supporting semantic interoperability in open networked systems. We characterize discovery and matchmaking semantic interoperability services for retrieving information resources semantically related to a target request, to enable a coordinated and virtualized access to distributed heterogeneous information resources.
